![]() ![]() I went in and they read my error code for me and said best bet is to replace the camshaft position sensor. I was driving down the road and my "Service Engine Soon" light came on ironically as I was coming up to a local parts shop. Anyone have any advice? Go to a mechanic? LOL. So, these are all the things I found when trying to figure out what the heck is going on with my BMW. ![]() Or could it be.Ĭontinuous oil flow to the Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) piston chamberĬamshaft advance mechanism binding (VCT unit) Interestingly, I have noticed some type of leak around the area where my camshaft position timing sensors are located. Signal pick-up portion of the camshaft has accumulated debris?įoreign matter contaminates the oil groove for intake valve timing control? Intake valve timing control solenoid valve is defective or intake valve timing intermediate lock control solenoid valve is flawed? Could my issue be something else? Before I go buy the parts and change them.Ĭrankshaft position sensor is faulty or damaged? I would get error codes misfire 1 or misfire 6.etc. I have changed all the coil packs because I continued to have issue after issue with those. I found them and with some special maneuvering I could change them. There are 2 camshaft position sensors located on the front of the engine. IF all I need to do is change this I am good. External easy stuff is all I will mess with. I do some mechanic work but am not even close to understanding everything. This parts shop description says that code P0584B indicates that the Cold Start "B" Camshaft Position Bank 1 timing was over-retarded for a predetermined period of time. The wrong oil can cause this code and can cause multiple codes to appear along with it.I was driving down the road and my "Service Engine Soon" light came on ironically as I was coming up to a local parts shop. If you use an oil that is too thick, it can cause this system to malfunction and cause error codes and engine performance problems. The oil must have the correct viscosity for the camshaft adjustment system to work properly. The camshaft phaser controls the timing advance and retard function via oil and oil pressure. Check timing chain alignment for timing jumps and repair if necessary.Īdditional comments to consider regarding code P0012.Replacing the intake camshaft bank 1 camshaft oil valve.Repair or replace the wiring or connection of the camshaft oil control solenoid valve.Oil and filter change oil with a viscosity that matches the engine specifications.Clearing fault codes and performing a road test.Driving the vehicle for extended periods of time with the reverse camshafts not engaged can cause other valvetrain or engine problems depending on the cause of the malfunction. The engine may have excessive fuel consumption, carbon contamination of engine components, and various drive complaints depending on the faulty camshaft position. The engine may run erratically and stall, oscillate, run rough, or be difficult to start.Do not replace any parts unless directed by spot or visual testing.Follow step-by-step instructions to prevent misdiagnosis.Perform a thorough visual inspection for any wiring or component connection problems.Always check for a fault before attempting to repair. ![]()
